Location Independent Learning Curve
I thought that my trip to Spain would give me more experience of living the location independent life, I certainly learned a few lessons. WiFi connection is great but the service varies depending on where you are situated. The place that we were staying at offered free WiFi access but the connection was up one minute and down the next. The area in which we were staying is enclosed by mountains on one side and this apparently affected the connection.
As a safety precaution I had taken my 3G donger with me as this is supposed to enable you to hook up to a number of different networks wherever you are. Unfortunately, there was little or no reception from any of these networks where we were staying. It cost me about fifteen quid in phone calls to find that out.
I did manage to get some work done but was way behind on schedule by the time I got back because of these connection problems. Next time I shall be better prepared for connecting to a network abroad as there are other ways of getting connected to a hotel system, so I’m told.
If you plan on trying out location independent working further afield, then be prepared and take your USB internet connecter, as well as a donger if you have one, 3G’s term, not mine.
