Not sure whether I am feeling particularly jaded today, but there are some members of Twitter who seem to live by the rule, the links, the whole links, and nothing but the links. I’m not talking about the people who interact or have some take on the links they post, but those tweets that are simply redirects to sales pages or get rich quick scams.

I usually tweet a link to my latest post, but I also try to engage at points or post information. I cannot for the life of me see what is gained by a constant procession of links and nothing else, not a good morning or even a kiss my ass.

I am seriously considering pruning those followers who post links and nothing else, as I find that after a while, they grate on me. If you don’t want the reader to be bitter, then post something fitter than online Twitter litter.

Many freelancers tend to keep erratic hours and this is especially the case if, like me, you are a UK writer with a number of American clients. The rise of the world wide web means that the business of freelancing is such that freelancers have clients from all over the world – language permitting – this means that you sometimes have to be available for clients at a time that is not conducive to either clear thinking or accurate typing. It is ok to write and save what you have written but unless you are super person, if you’ve been up for around 18-20 hours, you will make some glaring mistakes, as I have done.

The above scenario is even more embarrassing when you confidently put a link on Twitter to the first couple of posts on your new wesbsite. You can just hear the comments, “writer huh” “researcher, yeah” “proofreader, I don’t think so”. On a serious note, if you are in the freelance writing business glaring mistakes can harm your image and your reputation, if you have one that is, if you do foul up, as I did, then make sure that you edit it as soon as possible. And remember, don’t hit the publish button at 3am in the morning, whatever part of the world you are in.
